Postage stamps marking 140 years of Serbian-American diplomatic relations
Today, the Post of Serbia presented a commemorative philatelic issue in honor of the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and the United States. At a ceremony held at the PTT Museum, in the presence of State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemanja Starović, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Đorđević presented the US Ambassador to Belgrade, Anthony Godfrey, with a special gift of this philatelic issue for US President Joseph Biden
“The Post of Serbia is fulfilling its socially responsible role by supporting the policy of the Government and the President of the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which it does in its own specific way and with a clear message that Serbia is a country with a large number of friends. Serbia is a great friend of the United States and I believe that our two countries will walk together on the path to the future, and this is the message that the Post of Serbia symbolically conveys with this philatelic issue”, said Zoran Đorđević.
Ambassador Godfrey thanked the Post of Serbia for the philatelic issue which, as he said, marks the great jubilee in an original way. The stamp vividly represents the relationship and friendship between our people and countries, which are based on common values and a common vision of the future. The document shown on the stamp and the eagles that stand side by side, remind us of the partnership between the United States and Serbia, which we are building day by day”, said Ambassador Godfrey, emphasizing that the most important common goal is Serbia's path to the European Union.
State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nemanja Starović, assessed that the handing over of the exclusive philatelic issue to the President of the USA, Joseph Biden, is an exceptional symbolic act that depicts the connection of nations through a written word that travels the world and connects people. “The development of good relations with the United States is one of Serbia's foreign policy priorities. Today, we can proudly say that the positive dynamics of cooperation between Serbia and the United States reaches new levels and opens new perspectives”, said Starović, emphasizing the readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to build comprehensive cooperation with the United States based on common values and interests of our states and people.
The commemorative philatelic issue entitled “140 years of diplomatic relations between Serbia and the United States” consists of two commemorative postage stamps in the form of a block with a double-headed eagle motif, chosen by the citizens of Serbia through a poll organized in July via the Viber application.
