Exclusive philatelic issue - 60 years since the first manned space flight
On this very day, on 12 April 1961, the Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin flew into space, which initiated the new era in the history of mankind. On this occassion, the Post of Serbia exclusively presented the philatelic issue “60 years since the first manned space flight” the unique originals of which will be handed in to the presidents of Serbia and the Russian Federation - Aleksandar Vučić and Vladimir Putin.
The philatelic issue “60 years since the first manned space flight” was created in cooperation with the State Corporation of the Russian Federation for Space Activities “Roscosmos”. The stamps show the portraits of Russian cosmonauts – Yuri Gagarin, German Titov, as well as the first and so far the only, woman cosmonaut that flew to space alone – Valentina Tereshkova.
At the celebration that took place in the PTT Museum, the unique exhibits of this philatelic issue are presented exclusively and will be handed in to the Presidents of the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation - Aleksandar Vučić and Vladimir Putin.
“In spite of problems that the world is facing, such as the economic crisis and covid 19 pandemic, owing to the vision and persistence of one man, the President Aleksandar Vučić, Serbia showed that it is able to fight against all the challenges in the best way. Serbia remembers the big moments of humanity and it will always be ready to comemmorate them, as it has done today with the stamps dedicated to the first manned flight to space“, said Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia.
„Today’s event will be another impetus for the development of the relationship between Russia and Serbia and the realization of the agreement between the presidents Vladimir Putin and Aleksandar Vučić on achieving cooperation in the field of science and technology, and especially in cooperation in the production of the vaccine against the corona virus, which, today, is the most important for our countries and the whole world“, said the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Serbia Aleksandr Botsan‑Kharchenko and thanked director Đorđević and officials of Serbia for their support on today’s event.
PTT Museum has displayed the exhibition created in the cooperation with the Russian Home which shows exclusive photographs of Yuri Gagarin provided by the “Roskosmos“, as well as the philatelic exhibition “Serbian and Russian Philately on cosmos” presenting for the first time extremely valuable and rare postage stamps with the topic of space exploration published in Serbia and Russia, which was organized in cooperation with the "Adligat" Association.
