KUD "Đoka Pavlović" presented its new young members

The first public showcase by the children's ensemble of the "Đoka Pavlović" Cultural and Artistic Society was held at the PTT Museum on 10 October.

Twelve new young members proudly demonstrated the skills and techniques acquired during the first month of the new season to parents, family members, friends, and admirers of the society's art. The "Đoka Pavlović" children's ensemble performed dances from Central Serbia, followed by the "Ersko Kolo" (a folk dance from Western Serbia) and "Katanka" (a folk dance from Southeastern Serbia), under the artistic direction of Milena Stojiljković, the ensemble's new leader.

Tijana Rajković, President of the KUD "Đoka Pavlović," praised the agility, discipline, and skills of the new members, highlighting that they represent the future of the society, which takes pride in a long and successful tradition spanning 81 years of operation.

"I expect that among you are members who will reach a very high level of dancing skills in the years to come, and—we hope—perform at the Society’s centenary celebration," said Ms Rajković.

Ms Rajković stated that for the future of the Society—which has endured for eight decades thanks to the dedication, talent, and enthusiasm of numerous generations of members—as well as for its survival and continued development, it is crucial to attract young generations and pass on to them a love for the amateur world of dance and song, with its rich traditions and artistry.

Ms Rajković expressed special gratitude to Zoran Anđelković, Director of the Post of Serbia, for recognizing the importance of preserving tradition, culture, and history, and for the Post of Serbia’s continuous support of the Society’s work.

The young female members received full support from the performing ensemble, which presented dances from Srem and the Svrljig Valley, as well as a women's dance contest from Crna Trava, under the direction of Janko Dimitrijević, the artistic director of the First Performing Ensemble. The vocal group performed the folk song "Osu se nebo zvezdama" from Central Serbia, the folk song "Miš mi je polje popas'o" from Eastern Serbia, and the folk song "Ej, zaspa', zadrema'" from the Niš area.
