Today is World Post Day
World Post Day is observed globally today—a celebration of the institution and system that connects humanity and stands as one of the oldest examples of international cooperation. With an impressive global network comprising 660,000 offices and 4.6 million employees, the postal service does more than just deliver postal items, messages, goods, and services; it ensures daily that no one is left behind.
World Post Day serves as a reminder that, even in the digital age, the postal service remains vital to citizens and the economy, having transformed into a key pillar for e-commerce, logistics, and digital services. Today, the postal service acts as a universal service hub, making modern life unimaginable without it. At the same time, it holds profound human significance, as postal workers are often the only ones who visit elderly citizens in the most remote areas—a fact reflected in this year’s World Post Day slogan: "One postal network, endless possibilities."
The Universal Postal Union was established on 9 October, 1874, in Bern, and the Principality of Serbia was among its 22 founding nations. The decision to mark that day as a holiday for the global postal community—which today comprises 192 member states—was made at the Universal Postal Union Congress in Tokyo in 1969.
