Postage stamp issue “Friends of Serbia” presented in the PTT Museum
The PTT Museum in Belgrade presented the philatelic issue “Friends of Serbia”, dedicated to European countries with which Serbia fosters long-standing cultural and diplomatic relations. The stamps depict folk attire from Greece, Slovakia, Cyprus, Spain and Romania, as well as a selection of traditional clothing from Serbia that illustrate cultural ties and common heritage.
The ceremony was attended by the Acting Director of PE Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions of the aforementioned countries, as well as the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Nebojša Radojičić, who emphasized the significance of mutual respect, cooperation and cultural connections.
Greece is represented on the stamps by the wedding attire from Corfu besides female clothing from Vlasina. Ambassador Maria Levanti pointed out that the choice of Corfu “reflects deep historical and cultural ties between the Greek and Serbian people” and that the stamp is a “symbol of lasting bonds” between the two countries.
Romania is represented by attire from Bistrița, along with Serbian attire from Vranjska Pčinja. Ambassador Silvia Davidoiu emphasized that this issue shows how culture and tradition build bridges of friendship between people.
Slovakia is represented by the attire of a young woman from Krakovany, alongside Serbian attire from the Raška region. Ambassador Michal Pavuk said that the attire “symbolizes tradition and cultural heritage” and that culture unites people and inspires future generations.
Cyprus was represented by simple traditional attire, alongside Serbian attire from the Niš area. Deputy Chief of Mission Giulia Sykopetrites highlighted that friendship between people “is not only reflected in agreements, but also in thoughtful gestures that honour the past and inspire the future”.
Spain is represented by the bridal attire from Lagartera and the Serbian attire from Raška. Deputy Ambassador Dario Otero Castro pointed out that the stamp reminds us that culture and common heritage connect people and that preserving this heritage is the shared responsibility of the state, institutions and citizens.
On behalf of PE Post of Serbia, the Acting Director, Zoran Anđelković, addressed the audience, emphasizing that the “Friends of Serbia” issue “is not just a philatelic artefact, but a pledge of friendship and an expression of respect for the countries with which we share enduring values, history and cultural heritage”.
Anđelković added that the decision on selecting the countries to be included in this acknowledgment was simple, following the policy of the Serbian Government, with criteria such as closeness, mutual regard, respect for international law and the territorial integrity of Serbia. He thanked all participants in the project and expressed particular satisfaction with the choice of motifs.
“We are all working hard and introducing new technologies and artificial intelligence in order to move forward, but if we do not respect our history and tradition, we will not make a real contribution nor give meaning to progress”, concluded Anđelković.
Director Anđelković presented each of the ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions with a framed stamp from the “Friends of Serbia” issue as a symbol of gratitude for their contribution to the preservation and affirmation of cultural ties with the Republic of Serbia.
After the end of the ceremonial part of the programme, the guests toured the permanent exhibition of the PTT Museum.
PE Post of Serbia continues to promote culture, tradition and international cooperation through philatelic issues, building bridges of friendship with countries around the world.
