In Kragujevac, robots are sorting 2,500 postal items per hour

Kragujevac, May 26, 2025 – The Post of Serbia launched robots for automated sorting of postal items at the main postal centre in Kragujevac, in the presence of the Acting Director of the Post of Serbia Zoran Anđelković, Ministers in the Government of the Republic of Serbia Snežana Paunović and Boris Bratina, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment Mihailo Jovanović, and Mayor of Kragujevac Nikola Dašić.

Zoran Anđelković said that he initiated the project a year ago to facilitate manual sorting processes. He said that the benefits of applying artificial intelligence in processes will first be felt by employees and customers in the city of Kragujevac, as well as in the area of central Serbia. He stated that the robots in Kragujevac will sort 2,500 postal items per hour, which will enable at least three times faster delivery to customers, as well as sorting postal items for post offices in other cities in the area.

"We have invested around 900 million dinars in robots, but I am completely sure that these funds will pay off, speed up processes and strengthen our technical, technological and human potential," concluded Zoran Anđelković, and pointed out that the Post of Serbia is currently working on other projects, expanding the network of parcel machines, developing collective mailboxes, as well as developing an eDelivery system, in cooperation with the relevant Ministry.

Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government Snežana Paunović said: "It is a pleasure to know that as a state, primarily as a public enterprise, we are able to follow trends and to stay one step ahead of trends and improve our own system faster than could be expected from us as a small state." She thanked for the invitation to be part of what she said was an important day for the City of Kragujevac, the Post of Serbia and its employees.

Minister of Information and Telecommunications Boris Bratina said that the Post of Serbia plays a very important role for both the economy and citizens, and that additional automation will enable it to operate even more efficiently. "I am honoured to be present at a place like this where you can see that the industry truly represents human power and opportunities for practically unlimited development," said Minister Bratina.

The Mayor of Kragujevac, Nikola Dašić, expressed his satisfaction that Kragujevac, with a long tradition of postal transport in Serbia, and as the current centre of the automotive, mechanical and rail vehicle industry and the headquarters of the Government Data Centre, is the second city in Serbia in which the Post of Serbia has started with the robotization of processes, within the framework of the trends that Kragujevac and Serbia aspire to be part of the modern world.

"I congratulate the Director of the Post of Serbia, Mr. Anđelković, all employees and management on their determined efforts and results in the technological progress of the Post, with the unwavering intention to preserve all jobs and obtain new ones. The city of Kragujevac, as we announced, in addition to being already recognized as the Serbian Silicon Valley with the construction of the Government Data Centre and the Innovation District, is also becoming a smart city. By applying artificial intelligence and robotics, Kragujevac will become a model Serbian city with various smart solutions that we will then implement in other Serbian cities. In accordance with the presentation of the Prime Minister, Prof. Đuro Macut, in Kragujevac we are demonstrating with a concrete example how the application of science, new technologies and AI can contribute to the strengthening of the Serbian economy and the progress of our society," said Mihailo Jovanović, Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment.

Jovanović put into operation the robots for automated sorting of postal items, while Ministers Paunović and Bratina, representatives of the City of Kragujevac, the management of the Post of Serbia, and directors of working units had the opportunity to test their work.

After the robot was put into operation, the Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanović, organized a tour of the Government Data Centre, the largest Data Centre in Southeast Europe.
