Post of Serbia at the International Stamp Exhibition of Slovenia and Serbia

The Post of Serbia, PTT Museum and the Srbijamarka Sector participated in the International Philatelic Exhibition of Stamps of Slovenia and Serbia, which is being held in Škofja Loka, Slovenia, from March 22 to April 6, under the auspices of the Embassy of Serbia in Slovenia and the Municipality of Škofja Loka.

The exhibition is dedicated to the reformers of the Serbian and Slovenian languages – Vuk Stefanović Karadžić (1787–1864) and Jernej Kopitar (1780–1844), as well as the achievements of their friendship, professional cooperation and association in the Vienna Court Library from 1813 to 1844. In their honour, and on the occasion of the exhibition, the Union of Philatelists of Serbia and the Škofja Loka Philatelic Society have prepared personalized postage stamps dedicated to the two Slavic reformers.

The PTT Museum and Srbijamarka have organized the exhibition "Orthodoxy", which presents commemorative and regular postage stamps with motifs of important anniversaries, personalities, monuments of religion and culture, and Serbian customs: 900 years since the birth of Stefan Nemanja, 800 years of the Mileševa Monastery, 600 years since the coronation of Stefan the First-Crowned, 800 years of the autocephaly of the Serbian Church, Serbian monasteries on the UNESCO cultural heritage list, Serbian sacral architecture, an issue on the occasion of the 23rd International Congress of Byzantine Studies, and others.

Visitors to the exhibition at the France Mihelič Gallery in Škofja Loka have an exclusive opportunity to encounter the history of Serbia and Slovenia from the late 19th to the late 20th century until April 6. Some of the topics illustrated by the selection of postage stamps are the history of Orthodoxy, the history of Slovenian art, the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Turkish period and after the annexation by Austria-Hungary, while highlights include exhibits such as the military censorship stamp in Novi Sad during World War II and the postal railway stamps of Slovenia.

The International Philatelic Exhibition of Stamps of Slovenia and Serbia is organized by the Škofja Loka Philatelic Society, the Philatelic Association of Slovenia, the Union of Philatelists of Serbia and the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in the Republic of Slovenia and is implemented as part of the Month of the Republic of Serbia in the Republic of Slovenia event.

The ceremonial opening of the exhibition on March 21 was attended by the highest representatives of the Philatelic Association of Slovenia and the Union of Philatelists of Serbia, as well as philatelic societies from several Slovenian cities and municipalities, the First Councelor of the Embassy of Serbia in Slovenia, Aleksandar Gatalica, representatives of the local government, the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality of Ljubljana, and numerous guests.
