On robotization of postal services at the PosTel Symposium

The Post of Serbia, as a co-organizer of the 42nd PosTel Symposium, participated in this traditional gathering, which has been held for more than four decades as a central place for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of postal and telecommunications transport. This prestigious event brought together eminent experts from the country and abroad, who discussed the latest technological challenges and innovations in the industry.

Zoran Anđelković, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, in his address emphasized the importance of digital transformation and the implementation of advanced technologies in order to further improve services. He particularly emphasized the role of robotization, which will be key to the efficiency and competitiveness of the Post of Serbia in the future.

"The Post of Serbia, as the national postal operator, continuously invests in innovations that improve the quality of services. In two to three weeks, the first robotic postal centre in Novi Sad will begin operating, followed by Niš, Belgrade, Kragujevac and Kraljevo. By the time the World Post Day is celebrated, we will have five robotic postal centres, which will be the pride not only of the Post, but of the entire Serbia. The introduction of robots will enable faster and more accurate processing of postal items, which is a significant step towards reducing operating costs and improving the customer experience. By analysing the experiences of other countries, we have come to the conclusion that one parcel machine is needed for every 5,000 inhabitants. The last mile is to analyse together how to get closer to our customers, make the process faster, cheaper and more convenient for everyone. By “Sretenje” (Presentation of Christ in the Temple/The Meeting of our Lord Holiday and Statehood Day of Serbia), it is planned to place around 20,000 parcels in parcel machines”, said the Director of the Post of Serbia.

The PosTel Symposium brought together numerous experts in the field of postal and telecommunications systems, who during the event exchanged experiences on the application of new technologies such as 5G and 6G networks, as well as artificial intelligence in the optimization of postal services. The event also included expert panels and round tables on the topics of energy efficiency, digitalization, as well as the development of e-commerce, which is increasingly influencing the dynamics of the sector.

Within the framework of the Symposium, the Post of Serbia provided support and expert assistance through the work of Olja Jović and Spasenija Ožegović, who presented topics related to the future of e-commerce and its impact on innovation and competitiveness of postal services.

On the second day of the Symposium, within the thematic block "Postal Traffic, Networks and Services", presentations related to research on user attitudes towards postal services, models of sustainability of the universal postal service, the standardization process in postal traffic, multi-criteria analysis methods for the installation of parcel machines, possibilities for applying artificial intelligence in postal systems, as well as new technological solutions in processing centres, such as robots used in postal processing centres, were particularly noted.

Within this thematic block, Jovanka Šević, Head of the Strategy Service in the Strategy and Business Risk Assessment Accompanying Function, and President of the Commission for Standards and Related Documents KS A 331 – Postal Traffic at the Institute for Standardization of the Republic of Serbia, presented a paper entitled “Standardization in Postal Traffic – Obligations under European Union Regulations and Examples of Implementation”. The presentation covered key aspects of European regulations in the field of postal traffic and best practice examples that the Post of Serbia implements to improve the quality and efficiency of services, as well as prospects for further improvement through standardization and harmonisation with European standards.

The Symposium was also an opportunity to recall the importance of the research and expert work of Prof. Dobrivoje Jovanović, PhD, the conceptual creator of PosTel, whose vision and work left a deep mark on the development of the postal and telecommunications sector.

The Post of Serbia, as a co-organizer of this event, continues to invest in the modernization, robotization and digitalization of its services, in order to be more competitive and agile in the market.
