Postage stamps in honour of Australian Medical Mission in Serbia
At a meeting dedicated to the promotion of postage stamps, held in the business premises of the Post of Serbia, the importance and deep connection between Serbia and Australia was highlighted, especially through the prism of the 110 years of the Australian Medical Mission in Serbia.
The acting director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Anđelković, emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the two countries, dating back to the time of the First World War, while the ambassador of Australia, Daniel Emery, expressed his gratitude for the recognition of the contribution of Australian medics.
The meeting was dedicated to the promotion of postage stamps that will be presented on 8 November. The Ambassador of Australia, Daniel Emery, congratulated the director Anđelković on his appointment and emphasized the importance of the role of the Post of Serbia, especially in rural areas, where it is often the only representative of the state. He also expressed gratitude for the creation of stamps that will contribute to a better understanding of the common history of Serbia and Australia
Director Anđelković noted that relations between the two countries have a long tradition, and that Serbia will never forget the contribution of Australian medics. The promotion of stamps will be an important event that will enable young people to learn about the history of our two nations.
The Post of Serbia has started the process of making portraits of medics, with consent for the use of material from Mr Bojan Pajić, the author of the publication "Australians with Serbs in the First World War".
The promotion of postage stamps is scheduled for 8 November, and an eight-member delegation from Australia is expected to attend, including descendants of the people from the Australian medical mission who will appear on the stamps. This event will not only mark the rich history, but also strengthen the ties between the two countries through the art of postage stamps.
