Life and work of Evžen Deroko – a lecture held at the PTT Museum
A lecture on the life and work of Evžen Deroko, one of the greatest Serbian philatelists of all time, was held at the PTT Museum.
Lecture by prof. Milan Radovanović, PhD, a retired university professor and former president of the Union of Philatelists of Serbia, and Tivadar Gaudenji, a senior scientific associate at the "Jovan Cvijić" Geographical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, who devoted their long-term research to postal history of Serbia in the First World War, were of great importance to those present, who had the opportunity to learn more about the rich heritage and contribution of Deroko in the field of philately.
Evžen Deroko, born in 1860 in Belgrade, was a prominent philatelist, but also a traffic expert and a polyglot who spoke and wrote in several world languages. Deroko devoted seven whole decades to his passion for philately. He was the president of the Yugoslav Philatelic Association and the holder of international awards, including the Nobel Prize for Philately - the Lindbergh Medal, and he left a permanent mark on Serbian and Yugoslav philately.
Guests of the PTT Museum had a unique opportunity to learn more about the life and work of Evžen Deroko, as well as about his significant works. This lecture was not only an opportunity to emphasize the importance of Serbian philately, but also to encourage interest in the preservation and promotion of Serbia's cultural heritage.
