Commemorative postage stamp issue presented - Serbia-Slovenia: Our Greats
Consul of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in the Republic of Serbia Kristina Kliner and the Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, Zoran Đorđević, presented the issue of commemorative postage stamps "Serbia-Slovenia: Our Greats" in the PTT Museum.
The issue was published in honour of three jubilees - 270 years since the birth of the great Slovenian mathematician and artillery officer Jurij Vega, who contributed to the liberation of Belgrade from the Turks in 1788, 155 years since the admission of the great Serbian and Slovenian linguist Franz Miklosich to the Serbian Learned Society, and 155 years since the birth of the great Slovenian chemist Frederik Pregl, winner of the Nobel Prize.
"The Republic of Slovenia is a country with which we have a lot of similarities and with which we are culturally and historically connected, which is why we presented on postage stamps the three great men who connected our countries and left their mark in Serbia. Cooperation between Serbia and Slovenia is at a high level today, and this issue is another incentive in strengthening our relations. In 2024, the Post of Serbia will continue to mark all important dates, events and historical figures related to Serbia with an extremely rich program of stamps and commemorative philatelic issues," said Đorđević. He added that a postage stamp is being prepared that the Post of Serbia will issue on the occasion of the EXPO2027 exhibition, which will be in circulation from March this year until the end of the event in 2027.
Highlighting the lives and achievements of these great men, the Post of Serbia contributes to a positive image of the shared history of the Serbian and Slovenian people in the domestic and Slovenian public and to the promotion of good relations and friendship between Serbia and Slovenia.
The issue was published in professional cooperation with the "Svetozar Marković" University Library. The artistic realization of the issue is the work of Jakša Vlahović, an academic graphic designer and creator of stamps for the Post of Serbia.
