Postage stamp for the Polish poetess and Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska

In a philatelic issue dedicated to the greats of world art, the Post of Serbia published a commemorative postage stamp with the image of the Polish poet Wislawa Szymborska (1923–2012). In the PTT museum in Belgrade, H.E. Ambassador of Poland in Serbia, Rafal Perl, and Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, spoke about the importance of the issue and contemporary Serbian-Polish relations and recalled Szymborska’s contribution to world literature.

Ambassador Perl thanked Director Zoran Đorđević and Director of "Srbijamarka" Adam Sofronijević for the philatelic contribution of the Post of Serbia in the year marking the centenary of the birth of the great Polish poet, one of the most important contemporary Polish writers and winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature. On this occasion, the Embassy of Poland throughout the year organized a series of literary evenings and discussions about the life and work of Wisława Szymborska throughout Serbia, Ambassador Perl said, adding that the ceremonial promotion of a postage stamp in honor of Wisława Szymborska came as "icing on the cake".

"This is a continuation of the exceptional cooperation between the Post of Serbia and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland. In previous years, through joint work and efforts, we have enriched the philatelic collection of the Post of Serbia with stamps with the images of Dr. Ludwik Hirszfeld and the writer Stanisław Lem, and this year also the great astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus and the poet Wisława Szymborska. I hope that we will continue to cooperate successfully in this way next year", said Ambassador Perl.

"Our obligation as a socially responsible company is to follow and mark important dates and anniversaries, ours and our friends', and to deepen cooperation, in culture and in all other areas. We remain committed to expanding the partnership with Poland, which is a close and friendly country to us, and which strongly supports us on the way to the European Union", said Zoran Đorđević.

Đorđević presented Ambassador Perl with a gift edition of a commemorative postage stamp, in a philatelic album together with commemorative postage stamps published in the previous period by the Post of Serbia.

The Greats of World Art edition was published in professional cooperation with the "Svetozar Marković" University Library. The artistic processing of the issue is the work of Boban Savić and Nadežda Skočajić, creators of stamps for the Post of Serbia.
