Delegation of the Republic of Serbia at the UPU Congress
The delegation of the Republic of Serbia, led by Marija Vučinić from the Ministry of Information and Telecommunications, Ljubomir Ostojić from the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL), Bojana Nikolić and Olja Jovičić from the Post of Serbia, is participating in the fourth extraordinary congress of the Universal Postal Union, which is being held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from October 1 to 5.
The congress is expected to make a number of key decisions of importance for the future of the postal industry, and special emphasis is placed on the areas of tracking postal items from international traffic, development of postal and financial services, and solving issues of climate change and environmental protection.
Today, Congress will also discuss changes to the Integrated Plan for Postal Products, which aims to ensure further e-commerce development activities and customer requirements. In particular, the introduction of the obligation to monitor the delivery of small packets containing goods that have not been adequately monitored until now will be particularly considered. These packets, often coming from China, represent a significant segment of international business, and their tracking has become imperative in order to ensure security and transparency in international postal traffic.
Among the important decisions made in Saudi Arabia is the decision that allows stakeholders, i.e. actors from the wider postal sector, such as Amazon, Alibaba and others, to participate in the work of the Universal Postal Union, noting that they do not have the right to vote or submit proposals.
At the Congress, the Posts and postage stamps of 22 countries that are the founders of the Universal Postal Union were presented, among which the Post of Serbia proudly stands out.
