Postage stamp dedicated to Prince Mihailo presented in Kragujevac
In Prince Mihailo's Residence in Kragujevac, on September 15, organized by the Post of Serbia and the National Museum of Šumadija, a promotion of the philatelic issue "Rulers of Serbia" was held, where a commemorative postage stamp with the image of Prince Mihailo Obrenović was presented.
The Director of the National Museum of Šumadija Miloš Jurišić, Assistant to the Mayor of Kragujevac for Culture and Information Ana Petrović, Adviser to the Minister of Defence Predrag Rajić, and Director of the "Srbijamarka" Working Unit at the Post of Serbia Adam Sofronijević spoke at the promotion.
"The State of Serbia and the Post of Serbia, as its important part, are sending a clear message about the unity of the Serbian people with this issue, in the desire to leave behind us all divisions, including dynastic ones. On the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag, in Kragujevac, one of the historical capitals of Serbia, and on the eve of Prince Mihailo's birthday, we want to once again remember important figures from our history and be proud of the fact that our nation has three significant autochthonous ruling dynasties. The courage of Karađorđević dynasty and the wisdom of Obrenović dynasty, as beacons of our past, will always illuminate our path to the future, from now on together with the postage stamps of the Post of Serbia", said Adam Sofronijević.
The philatelic issue of the Post of Serbia was published on September 6 in honour of two great jubilees this year - the 200th anniversary of the birth of Mihailo Obrenović and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Petar II Karađorđević, two prominent rulers and statesmen from the Obrenović and Karađorđević families, with the idea that celebrates their lives and achievements, and above all, the rich history of Serbia.
The second commemorative postage stamp of the "Rulers of Serbia" issue shows the portrait of King Petar II Karađorđević. The artistic realization of the "Rulers of Serbia" philatelic issue, with two commemorative postage stamps in the form of a sheet of eight stamps and seventeen vignettes, a first day cover (FDC) and a commemorative stamp, is the work of academic painter Boban Savić, MA, creator of stamps for the Post of Serbia.
