Meeting Oscar winner Cynthia Wade – Serbian stamps honoring Hollywood

During a spontaneous meeting in Novi Sad with the American Oscar-winning director Cynthia Wade, who is visiting Serbia, Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia, talked about her work, achievements and impressions during her stay in our country.

On July 4, the Post of Serbia issued a commemorative postage stamp in honor of the centenary of the installation of the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles, one of the most famous symbols of global pop culture of the 20th century and to this day a universal metaphor for the entire industry, subculture and lifestyle.

Đorđević presented the director Wade with the symbolism of the motif on the commemorative postage stamp in honor of the great film artist Ida Lupino - a director's chair with the inscription "Mother of all of us", as one of the first women in Hollywood who wrote scripts, produced and directed movies called herself. Director Lupino, whose work includes "The Hitchhiker", the only film noir from the classic period of the genre directed by a woman, and her independent production company "Filmakers Inc.", were oriented towards low-budget films with sensitive social themes, which is why the director's chair of Ida Lupino on the block rand represents symbolic support for women in Hollywood who have been disenfranchised in the film industry for decades, Đorđević explained.

He added that the Post of Serbia, with this commemorative edition, wanted to highlight the strong cultural ties with the United States, which are the basis of the friendship between our peoples. Presenting a gift issue of commemorative stamps to director Wade, Đorđević also pointed out that artists of Serbian origin also contributed to the rise, fame and success of Hollywood, among whom he singled out actor Karl Malden, with an incredible film career of more than 60 films, winner of the Oscar in 1951 and Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2004.

Đorđević and the director Wade then signed the first day covers, which will be sent to the address of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and prominent artists in Hollywood, primarily actresses, female directors, set designers and other film artists, with a message and commemorative postage stamp Serbia - USA: 100 years of Hollywood, as a sign of gratitude for their contribution to the development of film art and the creation of Hollywood history.
