Exhibition dedicated to telephone traffic development in the PTT Museum
In honour of the jubilee of telephone traffic, the Post of Serbia and the PTT Museum in Belgrade presented the exhibition "140 years since the first telephone conversation in Serbia: Blind telephone operators - It is only with the heart that one can see rightly" which is open to visitors until May 19.
In addition to the exhibits from the Technical Collection of the PTT Museum, items from the collection of the "Veljko Ramadanović" School for Visually Impaired Students are on display - Braille machines, Braille typewriters, teleprinters, books from which telephone operators learned, as well as modern telephones used by the blind and visually impaired, in honour of Nikola Đorđević, the creator of speech software for the blind and visually impaired in the Serbian language. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the scientist, innovator and inventor of the telephone Alexander Graham Bell, engineer and the first telephone installer in our country Panta Mihajlović, and special pedagogue Veljko Ramadanović, who adapted the Braille alphabet to the Serbian language and founded the first school for the blind in Bizerte in 1917.
The exhibition places a special emphasis on education and contribution of the blind and visually impaired persons in the work of telephone exchanges from the sixties of the last century to the present day, to whom a part of the exhibition is dedicated by highlighting the biography of Veljko Ramadanović in Braille.
The author of the exhibition, the curator of the PTT Museum, Nina Atlagić, thanked for the cooperation of the Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Palilula Municipality, and for the professional help and contribution in the realization of the exhibition - School for Visually Impaired Students "Veljko Ramadanović" from Zemun, in front of which the Director of the School, Jelena Vukić, gave a speech.
Nikola Dabović demonstrated the use of the Alafanum Danica (e-speak) application. The band of the "Veljko Ramadanović" school and the students of the 7th Belgrade Gymnasium participated in the program by performing the piece "Oh, that phone".
