Postage stamp in honour of Agostinho Neto

The Post of Serbia and the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Belgrade formally presented to the public a commemorative philatelic issue published by the Post of Serbia on the occasion of commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Agostinho Neto.

The importance of the philatelic issue in honour of Agostinho Neto and the friendship between Serbia and Angola for the further development of good relations between the two countries was discussed by Eugénio César Laborinho, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Angola, and Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the Post of Serbia.

"In the spirit of the traditionally good relations and friendship between Serbia and Angola since the time of Agostinho Neto, we are celebrating the centenary of his birth with a commemorative philatelic issue and a joint message that the friendship between Serbia and Angola is strong, our traditionally good cooperation is full of understanding and with many potentials that are yet be used. The postage stamp remains a permanent testimony of the connection between our countries, the heritage and the importance of Agostinho Neto's struggle, as well as a message for the future - let's cherish values of freedom and our friendship", said Zoran Đorđević. Director Đorđević presented Minister Laborinho with a special gift edition of a commemorative postage stamp.

The postage stamp in the form of a block "Serbia - Angola: 100 years since the birth of Agostinho Neto" has as its motif the portrait of Dr. Agostinho Neto, a poet, revolutionary, leader of the struggle for independence, the first president of independent Angola and a prominent fighter against colonialism and imperialism. The Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Serbia provided professional cooperation in the realization of the philatelic issue, which includes a commemorative first-day cover and a commemorative seal. The artistic realization of the issue is the work of Boban Savić, MA, academic painter, creator of stamps for the Post of Serbia.
