Ceremony marking 65 years of Serbia and Morocco’s diplomatic relations

Today, in the PTT Museum, with the presentation of the philatelic issue entitled “Joint issue of Serbia and Morocco: 65 years of diplomatic relations” and the exhibition of Moroccan philately, the manifestation “Year of Morocco in Serbia – Year of Serbia in Morocco” began, marking 65 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco is organizing this ceremony in accordance with a strong partnership and traditional friendship, which have been further strengthened through efforts to intensify cooperation between the Posts of Serbia and Morocco, as a link between our peoples and economies.

The manifestation “Year of Morocco in Serbia – Year of Serbia in Morocco”, which opened today at the PTT Museum, with its numerous activities in Serbia and Morocco, will remind of the jubilee of establishing diplomatic relations between our friendly countries throughout 2022, and therefore we are honoured that the PTT Museum is the host of the ceremony with which the manifestation officially begins. This, together with the commemorative philatelic issue that we are releasing today, and which we published together with the Post of Morocco, once again confirms the importance of the Post of Serbia for the international promotion of national culture and common values we share with friendly countries”, said Zoran Đorđević, Acting Director of the PE Post of Serbia.

“I am very pleased to have the privilege of witnessing ever stronger and deeper relations between our two peoples, which are already closely linked by friendly relations, based on mutual respect and strong will of both our leaders, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to strengthen cooperation in all fields. Today, our postal institutions, Barid Al Maghrib and the Post of Serbia, published a joint philatelic issue as part of this event. I congratulate the management and teams of both institutions for their dedication and effort to celebrate this date as befits”, said Mohammed Amine Belhaj, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Serbia.

The philatelic issue entitled “Joint issue of Serbia and Morocco: 65 years of diplomatic relations” contains two commemorative postage stamps in a sheet of 10 stamps each, two First Day Covers (FDC) and a commemorative seal. The motifs on the stamps are the new road-railway bridge over the Danube in Novi Sad and the cable-stayed Mohammed VI Bridge in Rabat, and the motif on the FDC is the “Vrla” Bridge on Corridor 10 near Vladičin Han, an important symbol and architectural achievement of modern road infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia.

The event “Year of Morocco in Serbia – Year of Serbia in Morocco” is the result of an agreement between the foreign ministers of the two countries, Nikola Selaković and Nasser Bourita, who agreed to mark the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations with a series of events declaring 2022 the “Year of Morocco” in Serbia and “Year of Serbia” in Morocco.
